Laura Bush has represented herself reasonably well. She’s avoided some of the pitfalls of other first ladies while also establishing a certain amount of individualism. She’s dealt well with the irony (some would say) of her librarian background contrasting against her husband’s reported disdain for reading newspapers.
She’s done a good job of getting the right photo ops and dealing with less-than-ideal first children. But I know what it’s like living in Austin. It’s hard for anyone under 21 to avoid the temptation of a wild night.
She’s no Barbara Bush, but I think she has performed admirably.
